Boilers sometimes not only have asbestos in the outer coatings but asbestos can be found inside the boiler as well. Boilers with asbestos are a Type 3 Operation that requires the highest level of precautions including Decon, showers, and air testing post removal.
The decontamination showers used (or precautions equivalent to) are for the protection of the workers due to the amount of fibers that can become airborne during the removal. air testing post-removal is to ensure that no asbestos fibers remain post-asbestos removal.
